Carlisle Swim School

Karen started teaching children to swim over 15 years ago after the birth of her first son. Already a primary teacher and swimming instructor she discovered a gap in the market for children’s swimming in Carlisle and took to teaching babies and toddlers part time at weekends. The focus was to teach children as young as 8 weeks old to be safe and confident in the water.

Through precise training Karen learned that babies not only have a natural affinity to water as they have spent the first 9 months surrounded by it, but also that they do not have a fear of water. This training was used to develop a programme that allows parents to bond with their child whilst learning vital life saving techniques.

Through hard work and determination Karen developed the business taking over the running of Orton Grange pool in 2016. The swim school now offers lessons for children from 8 weeks up to around 9/10 years old. Karen has a great team of staff working alongside her who are all equally dedicated and committed with their unique approach to making lessons fun and exciting for children and parents alike.
